Serendipity – ABBA and Mamma Mia

Today is the day we when we move out of our home, into a guest room. The whole week has gone by in a tizzy- packing, rushing around the city for last moment chores, tempers fraying etc. As I stood in the kitchen store, moving jars and boxes out; I heard the notes of “Mamma Mia” blaring out of the t.v.

I absolutely adore the movie- Right from Meryl Streep’s grace, Pierce Brosnan’s hotness & charm, Colin Firth’s clumsy & cute dance to Streep’s wild & crazy friends – everything!

I’d seen the movie for the first time in Doon when I was carrying Taidu, my younger daughter. Anya and I watched the movie on television and danced to my favourite ABBA songs. Here , in this house too, many beautiful Sunday afternoons were spent watching this lovely movie. All four of us, singing along and dancing too , with me telling my kiddos of the times when I would go for solo drives in the car, with ABBA songs blaring out of the car’s stereo. Back then, even my mom had come to like the numbers. My kiddos too now know the songs and watch the whole movie, without once whining for the cartoon channels!

So, it’s sweet serendipity that the movie was scheduled for today. Again we watched it together, and the happy memories came flooding back, lifting the mood. A befitting closure to our days in this home. Mamma Mia ! !
